Dos de los detenidos son taxistas que al parecer captaban a extranjeros en condición migratoria irregular en la frontera
• Los otros dos presuntamente se encargaban de trasladarlos hasta San José
• Tres de los detenidos deberán firmar ante un juzgado y otro no podrá visitar el corredor fronterizo norte
• Uno de los sospechosos ya tiene expediente activo por este mismo delito
En lo que constituye el primer caso de detenciones múltiples de presuntos traficantes de personas en el norte del país, en lo que va del año, la Policía de Fronteras aprehendió a cuatro sospechosos de traficar con seres humanos.
Se trata de cuatro costarricenses que responden a los apellidos León, Solórzano, Acuña y Monestel, contra los cuales las autoridades judiciales dictaron diversas medidas cautelares, mediante las cuales se espera alejar de las calles del cantón de Los Chiles, frontera norte, al menos mientras son llevados a juicio.
Las diligencias con respecto a este caso iniciaron la mañana el lunes de esta semana, cuando fueron detenidos, y culminaron hasta en horas de la noche del martes, luego de ser presentados ante la Fiscalía de Los Chiles.
La operación inició cuando los oficiales fronterizos observaron a los taxistas León y Solórzano con sus vehículos estacionados durante varias horas cerca del puesto fronterizo de Tablillas de Los Chiles, tras lo cual Solórzano captó, en el sector conocido como “El Muro”, el cual es punto no autorizado para el ingreso de personas al país, a siete nicaragüenses en condición migratoria irregular.
Posteriormente los policías fronterizos observaron cuando ambos taxistas salieron a gran velocidad hacia el centro de Los Chiles, evadiendo un control migratorio, a fin de dirigirse hacia el sector de San Jerónimo, propiamente frente a Servicentro Los Chiles.
En ese sitio los esperaban dos conductores de apellidos Acuña y Monestel, quienes reciben por parte de Solórzano y León a este grupo de personas de nacionalidad nicaragüense en condición migratoria irregular, para trasladarlas hasta San José por un montón de quince mil colones por persona.
Los taxistas, al observar la presencia policial huyeron a gran velocidad del lugar, pero posteriormente fueron aprehendidos.
En el caso de Monestel, este conductor es un conocido de la Policía de Fronteras, ya que cuenta con expediente activo por tráfico ilícito de personas.
Bajo la dirección funcional del fiscal de turno de Los Chiles, la Policía de Fronteras aprehendió a los cuatro conductores, mientras que los siete extranjeros fueron presentados como testigos antes de ser repatriados.
Con respecto a las medidas cautelares que las autoridades judiciales les dictaron a los detenidos, a León, Acuña y Solórzano les ordenaron firmar cada mes en una dependencia judicial, mientras que Monestel tiene prohibición de ingresar al corredor fronterizo.
En lo que va del 2024 Los Chiles es el cantón donde la Policía de Fronteras ha detenido a más sospechosos de este delito, pues suman ya 32 sospechosos aprehendidos en ese cantón, mientras que La Cruz ocupa el segundo lugar con 15 presuntos traficantes de personas puestos tras las rejas.
Las otras dos aprehensiones se han registrado en el puesto de Kilómetro 35, en el distrito de Guaycará de Golfito, zona sur.
El tráfico de personas es un delito que, en su forma ordinaria, está sancionado con penas de 2 a 6 años de prisión, mientras que en su modalidad agravada se castiga con penas de entre 3 y 8 años de cárcel.
